Peter H. Reynolds Workshops: For NSEA Members Only

On Monday, July 17, Peter H. Reynolds, New York Times best-selling author/illustrator and founder of FableVision Learning, will provide an inspirational virtual keynote message, which will include Peter reading one of his books, followed by a Q and A session.

Following Peter’s keynote, FableVision Learning will deliver in-person sessions for teachers. Sessions will use Peter’s books as scaffolding and will provide hands-on activities to help teachers explore concepts, build self-esteem and, finally, have activities to support bringing the skills back into the classroom.

SESSIONS ARE LIMITED TO 40 PARTICIPANTS EACH. Because space is limited, we ask that members only attend one session. You may choose a first and second option from the sessions below. You will be contacted before the conference with details for the session you will attend.

Analyzing Prevalence in Your Negotiated Agreement

*Registration is closed for this session*   ATTENDEES MUST PRE-REGISTER BY JUNE 21 for NSEA to have time to prepare materials for this session. This session will be offered Tuesday, July 18 (afternoon) and Wednesday, July 19 (morning). Participants will compare their own agreement with other agreements in their array to analyze what bargaining topics are prevalent. Participants will create a spreadsheet to collect this information and then discuss strategies to use at the table around their findings.

Annual Financial Report

*Registration is closed for this session* Attendees MUST register by June 30, in preparation for this work session. Please bring a laptop; a limited number are available to borrow.

Attendees will learn how to use the school district’s annual financial report when going to the bargaining table.  While not designed to provide answers, it does generate questions that could provide information that the local can use to track how districts are spending their money and hopefully move more of that money into teacher salaries.

Poverty Immersion

This session is limited to 45 participants. If filled, there will be a wait-list and you will be notified if spots become available.

Learning Objectives: Participants will
•    Enhance their knowledge of poverty and its impacts on education success
•    Develop a common definition of poverty and a common language to discuss issues with peers and partners
•    Gain an understanding of the different life experiences of poverty and how they impact communication styles and educational success
•    Learn about the differences in communication across poverty barriers
•    Gain a framework for improving communication, teaching and learning skills
•    Develop their understanding on how to build relationships that make a difference
•    Gain tools and strategies for individual and organizational actions that have proven to improve education outcomes
