NSEA Higher Education

NSEA, Higher Education & You!

The Nebraska State Education Association has had a long and strong commitment to its Higher Education Association members.

Developing a strong local association.  One of NSEA’s 18 organizational specialists is dedicated solely to meeting the needs of higher education members. That commitment includes representing faculty, professional staff and education support professionals (ESPs) at community colleges, all three state colleges and the University of Nebraska Kearney and Lincoln campuses.

We have the expertise you need.  NSEA’s organizers, researchers, policy advocates, attorneys, and communicators can help with campus organizing and more. Our online databases provide model contract language and salary information.

Collective bargaining for professionals. NSEA provides support for collective bargaining at 11 higher education affiliates across the state.

We also have the legal experts you want.  Our legal service provides every member with a $1 million liability policy, and our on-site attorneys work to protect academic freedom, affirmative action in admissions, and educators’ rights to collectively bargain.

Good for your health. Through NSEA’s leading role in the Educators Health Alliance (EHA), you have access to high quality and affordable health insurance. As a member of EHA you are part of the largest insurance pool in the State of Nebraska.

NEA provides the power of numbers.  With 3 million members, NEA is the largest labor union in the U.S., representing more than 200,000 faculty, staff, and graduate employees in public and private higher education. Learn more here.

Join our voice on Capitol Hill.  NEA members are fighting for a new Higher Education Act that ensures high-quality, affordable higher education. We also are pushing for campus safety, equitable funding for minority-serving institutions, faculty research, and more.

NSEA Capitol Update:  NSEA members may click here to sign up and receive our Capitol Update newsletter to provide you with the latest information on education legislation and funding.

Improve your leadership skills.  NEA & NSEA provide a variety of training opportunities and resources, including advanced workshops at the National Leadership Summit and pre-summit NEA Higher Ed conference.

Have a voice in the development of progressive policy.  NEA’s Representative Assembly has committed to equity for contingent faculty, a balanced approach to online learning, and the creation of National Higher Education Month.

Join us in standing up for social and racial justice. NEA is committed to eradicating institutional racism in every level of education, and is working to protect immigrant students and educators, LGBTQ students and educators, and others, and is organizing on HBCU campuses with faculty and staff.

Save money, too!  There is strength AND savings in numbers! As a member, you have access to NEA Member Benefits, including discounts at restaurants and hotels, financial services around student loan repayment, home ownership, retirement planning, plus member rates on insurance and access to the NEA long-term care program.
